Today our website celebrates 18 months of existence. And what better way to celebrate than to give something back to our readers? With the help of the good folks from BitDefender, we are launching a give-away with great prizes: free 3-months trial versions of BitDefender Internet Security 2011 for all our readers, five full one-year licenses for a few lucky winners and two signed copies of our latest book Network Your Computers & Devices Step by Step. On February 2nd, 2011, we will give away five 1-year licenses of BitDefender Internet Security 2011. If you have read our Security for Everyone series, you already know that BitDefender Internet Security 2011 is one of the top security solutions available today for Windows 7.

How to Win - Carefully Read All Details

In order to be eligible for winning one of these prizes, you need to subscribe to 7 Tutorials AND BitDefender via Facebook, by January 31st, 2011.

Step 1: Subscribe via Facebook to BitDefender Global by hitting the Like button.. If you follow the instructions found on their Facebook page you will learn how to get access to the free 3-months trial version of BitDefender Internet Security 2011.

Step 2: Subscribe via Facebook to 7 Tutorials by hitting the Like button.

If you already are a Facebook fan of BitDefender Global or 7 Tutorials, you simply need to subscribe to the page you are not a fan of, yet. Those who do not subscribe to both pages will not be eligible for winning any of the prizes.

Alternative: Readers who do not use Facebook, can participate in this giveaway by subscribing to our E-mail newsletter and providing a valid e-mail address. Existing e-mail subscribers will be automatically considered for the giveaway. There is no need to subscribe again.

When Will We Announce the Winners?

On February 2nd, we will let our computers randomly pick the winners from all our Facebook fans. They will be contacted via Facebook in order to clarify the procedure of getting the prizes. Therefore, please make sure you enabled the possibility for others to send you messages.

I'm surprised that your company, that seems to be concerned with Privacy and Security issues, is so readily embracing Facebook.

I'm sorry but there is no risk of infecting yourself from following us on Facebook. Nor Facebook is distributing viruses in any way.

We do not distribute viruses via Facebook nor does BitDefender. Actually, if you look closely on the Facebook page of BitDefender, you can see they have a free product called BitDefender Safego. You can install it from here:

and here:
http://apps.facebook.com/bd-safego/

This product automatically scans all the links posted on your Facebook profile and all the apps you want to use and tells you if they are safe or not. You will never get your PC infected if you are using this product.

Therefore you can use Facebook safely and if you simply subscribe to us, you will never get infected with anything. Not sure why you are accusing us of such things.

I wish to support the general anti-facebook sentiment expressed by numerous readers here. I also am not a facebook fan. I am not a facebook "member". I will not join facebook in order to become elegible for any giveaway (Yes, I understand that it is not a requirement here, but there is strong "encouragement" to do so). I feel that facebook is a "toy for teens" and is not a proper vehicle for professional distribution of any information. It only lowers the credibility of the "professional" by promoting the website.

In REALITY, the fastest growing segment of new customers on facebook is the 70+ crowd. Oldsters are using it to find long-lost friends and relatives. Beats paying Classmates.com for the same thing. My Space is the "kiddie" network. The facebook crowd is the old AOL social network bunch, just older. Kids message with their phones, geezers still sit in front of computers. Kids spend that time running their X box global games. Talk about being out-of-touch with REALITY !!!
