Genuine Help For Windows 7

help logoOn the internet there are lots of new sites with tutorials for Windows showing up everyday. Unfortunately most of them have very poor quality articles and they cause damage to the people who follow their articles. Therefore we decided to start monitoring other sites with tutorials for Windows 7, review them and give badges such as 'Genuine Help' or 'Non-Genuine Help' for Windows 7. These badges will help our readers know which sites are trustworthy and provide good content and which sites are not and should be avoided. This rating will evaluate the quality of the sites with tutorials we will review. If you want to know more, click on read more.

Criteria Of Evaluation

When evaluating websites, we will judge them based on the following criteria:

  • Ease of use - to evaluate this, we will be looking at the following: site navigation ease, search functions and annoying ads. We will check how easy it is to find content on a website and if there are any good site search capabilities. We don't like sites with weird menus which confuse their visitors, nor search boxes hidden deep within the template of the site. Last but not least, we will be looking at the number of ads and how annoying they are. We too hate annoying pop-us, in-text advertising and more ads than content.
  • Ease of understanding - are your tutorials easy to understand? Many editors use very techy language to explain things to normal users which don't have a technical background. We believe that a content editor should get to know his audience and use a language understood by his readers. If your articles are targeted towards beginners and you start using terms like kernel, task kill, binary, etc without explaining what they are or, at least providing links where these things are explained, we will highlight this as a negative. We don't like to re-read a tutorial in order to understand it.
  • Completeness of tutorials - we will check if your tutorials are complete or not. By complete, we mean tutorials which don't miss any important steps. Just like our readers, we are frustrated when trying to follow tutorials which miss one or more important steps. We don't like to redo some of the steps from a tutorial in order to succeed. Also, we hate when we have to guess which button to click on setting to make because the author failed to explained.
  • Original articles - out of all bad things, we hate rip-offs, sites which shamelessly steal the work of others. In the world of tutorials it is normal for many sites to speak about the same tools and applications, each site having its own opinion and approach. However, it is not normal to copy-paste articles written by others and then market them as your own. At this criteria, we will appreciate more the sites which tend to come up with original content of their own and topics not covered as often by others.

The Formula

There is no mathematical formula! We will look at all criteria and, if a site fails most of them, it will receive the red badge of 'Non-Genuine Help'. However, the ultimate criteria for receiving the blue badge of 'Genuine Help' is the quality of the content. If a site has a friendly interface and its articles are easy to understand, this won't matter if the content is stolen from other sites or the editors have a bad habit of missing important steps in their tutorials. If the quality of the content is low, the other criteria will have less importance and the site will surely receive the red badge.

The judgment will ultimately be subjective and will represent our opinion. We will reserve the right to express our opinions even if some people, especially the owners of the sites which receive a red badge, will disagree with us.

Badges Given

The sites which are reviewed will be contacted by us and the appropriate badge will be sent to them. Site owners can use it as they see fit on their websites.

We can also send other sizes of the badge, if required. All you have to do is contact us via the comments form or via e-mail at ciprianrusen at[@] gmail dot[.] com.

Which Sites Do We Review?

Any site with tutorials about Windows 7 we encounter on the internet. There is no criteria and it will be pretty random. If any of our readers had a bad or great experience with a site, they are welcome to contact us at ciprianrusen at[@] gmail dot[.] com and share the web address. We will be happy to review it as soon as we find the time.

Do You Need Help With Your Tutorials Site?

If you are a website owner who wants to launch a site with tutorials or improve his/her current site, feel free to contact us and ask for advice. The e-mail address remains the same as above.

How To Turn A Red Badge Into A Blue Badge

If you do not agree with a red badge you might receive, please feel free to contact us using the methods mentioned above. When you do this, please keep in mind that it is very unlikely for us to change our opinion. Therefore, it is best to read our review and change things for the better. If you manage to do this, then please feel free to request another review. Depending on the changes you've made, we will change our verdict accordingly.

Conclusion

We hope this initiative will help people in search of good tutorials. With time, we hope to build a pretty complete list of site reviews which can be trusted and used by anybody needing help for their installation of Windows 7. Hopefully this will also send a signal to site owners and convince them that focusing on quality content is the right way to launch a site. Publishing untested 'tutorials' randomly taken from other sites doesn't provide any value to anybody. It just ruins everybody's computing experience.
