In this tutorial you will see how you can open images with it and how to make this program your default image viewer.
Set Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 As The Default Image Viewer
To set Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 as the default image viewer, open the Set Default Programs panel as shown in how to set your default programs in Windows 7.
From the Set Default Programs panel, click on Windows Live Photo Gallery and then on 'Set this program as default'. Now Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011 is used to open all supported file types and protocols.
Another way is to right click on an image you want to view. Then, go to Open with and select Windows Live Photo Gallery.
This opens the image in Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011. Click the 'Edit, organize or share' button at the top of the window.
The program will ask you whether to use Windows Live Photo Gallery to open JPG, PNG, BMP and other types of image files. Check 'Don't show me this again for these file types' if you don't want to be bothered with this message from now on. Then, click Yes.
From now on, every time you double click an image, it will open with Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011.
Set It As The Default Image Viewer Only For A Specific Format
Another way of setting Windows Live Photo Gallery as default is to right click an image, go to 'Choose default program' and, from the list of available applications, choose Windows Live Photo Gallery. Check the 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' option. Then, click OK.
NOTE: This procedure makes Windows Live Photo Gallery the default image viewer only for the format of the selected image. To set it as default for other formats, you need to repeat the procedure by selecting images with different formats.

Unfortunately, when you install Windows Live Photo Gallery 2011, you are not asked whether you want to set it as the default image viewer or not.
